The Trades Union Congress – TUC says it will make its position on the tariff proposals known by close of week after consultations with executive members.
Ahead of stating its position however the TUC has categorically indicated that it would NOT pay a 100% tariff increase proposed by the utility companies.
After a stakeholder consultation on Friday October 16, 2015, the TUC which said it was NOT convinced by the submissions of the utility providers said “they need to convince us on what they have used previous increases for.”
Speaking to TV3 News, Secretary General of the TUC, Kofi Asamoah said “we are now back to do our homework to send a formal presentation to them by close of week on our position but we have made them aware that the 100% increment was not right.
“We made them to appreciate that in as much as we share some of their concerns and want a stable and reliable supply of the utility, the proposal they are asking for is unacceptable.”
The utility service providers – Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Gridco and the Volta River Authority (VRA) are asking for increments in tariff to be able to provide reliable and quality services but consumers are also asking the utilities to give reliable & sustainable service before asking for an increase.
