Takoradi, Aug. 6, GNA- Mr Joseph Essien, Chairman of the Takoradi local, Ghana Telecom branch of the Communication Workers Union (CWU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) was on Friday re-elected for another four-year term.
He polled 153 votes to defeat Mr. Anthony Yanney, a contestant who had 18 votes.
Mr. Samuel Baah, was elected with 121 votes as the Vice Chairman. The position of second Vice Chairperson went to Madam Leticia Ansa-Sagu, Mr. John Amakye was elected Secretary, while the Assistant Secretary went to Madam Antoinette Yalley.
Mr. Samuel Buah and Anna Kwaw were returned unopposed for the first and second trustee positions respectively.
Swearing the new executive into office, Mr. Samuel B. Christian, the Western Regional industrial Relations Officer of the Health Services Workers Union, who stood in for the Regional Secretary of the TUC said their duty was to improve the working conditions of workers and labour related issues.
"You should therefore be role models for your colleagues and ready to assist workers whenever necessary".
Mr Christian urged workers to be bold and demand accountability from their leaders and avoid making false allegations against them. Mr Joseph Essien in his acceptance speech appealed to the workers to be united and work hard for the total development of the union and the Ghana Telecom.
Mr Fredua Agyeman Prempeh, the Regional Human Resource Manager of Ghana Telecom and Mr. John A. Nketsiah, Takoradi Area Telecom Manager, supervised the election and advised the union executives to be humble, truthful and fair to all workers and the management. 6 Aug 04
