Takoradi NPP Men In A Brawl

Members of the Takoradi branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) nearly came to blows last week, when a section of the people accused the just re-elected Member of Parliament, Mrs Gladys Asmah, for reneging on her promise to arrange a loan of ?3 million for each member, when re-elected.

According to a section of members, only 17 "selected members" had been given the loan, the source of which is not known to "outsiders".

When the matter was raised at the weekly Tuesday evening meetings at the offices of a national newspaper, hell broke loose as the few beneficiaries, jumped on stage, like boxers in defence of their titles.

Of course, the aggrieved members, who out-numbered the "defenders of the faith", also jumped up, ready for a free-for-all.

It took the pleas of some elderly men and women present to calm down tempers.

Indications are that, unless the "aggrieved members" are calmed down, there will be a "free show" at today's meeting, which starts at 5 p.m.
