Takoradi Senior High School (TADISCO) launches 60th anniversary

TADISCO was established in September, 1958 TADISCO was established in September, 1958

Mrs Elizabeth Akouko, the Sekondi/Takoradi Metropolitan Director of Education has called on old students of TADISCO to be passionate about their Alma Meta and contribute their quota in that regard.

She said Great schools have always ridden on the backs of their zealous old students who contribute both materially and financially to raise the living standards of such schools and added that “old students of TADISCO can emulate that to help lift the banner of this school even higher”.

The STMA Director of Education who also happens to be a Literature Tutor of the school for 25 years was speaking at the launch of the 60th anniversary of the school under the theme: “Facilitating Quality and Access to secondary education, the Role of Stakeholders”.

"Making second cycle education a better one draws on the collaborative efforts of both current and past students, tutors, parents, guardians and policymakers to improve quality and ensure equitable access".

Mrs Akouko recounted how she was posted from the university as a fresh graduate to the TADISCO in 1986 and paid glowing tribute to Mr Adade Antwi, Ms Emma Dadzie and others who helped to shape the future of the school.

The Metro Education Director prayed that God will continually bestow his unfailing love on the school, protect and unleash manifold blessings on the school as it continued to age and produces talents for the manpower need of the country.

Mr Akoto Bruce, the current Headmaster of the school called on old students to regularly engage the school in order to meaningfully contribute to its development.

He said the school presently needed lots of assistance in terms of teaching and learning aids and encouraged benevolent institutions to help in providing such needs.

Squadron Leader Ebo Baiden, Chairman of the Old Students Association of Takoradi Senior High School said the official launch testified to a great milestone in the history of the great school.

“In exactly five months and four days from today, in the 3rd week of November 2018, we shall mark a historic occasion, which is the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the great Takoradi Senior High School popularly known as TADISCO. The school was established in September 1958.”

He said the founders of the school, led by the late J. E. Eyeson laid a foundation for a secondary school that would be the foundation of ethics and morality of Sekondi-Takoradi, and would allow for all boys and girls in and around Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis to have access to a holistic education that guarantees a firm foundation for higher academic pursuits.

“We need to look at these five broad categories of entities that must be concerned with the management of a school like Tadisco: Government, parents, teachers and non-teachers, old students and corporate and individuals.

“All of us here have roles to play in the creation and development of education in Ghana in general. Takoradi Senior High School has played its role in training great men like me – I became a pilot and I am now an entrepreneur.

Others have become Journalists, doctors, engineers, teachers, nurses, scientists, great Business Managers, Statesmen like the Hon Dan Abodakpi, Ambassador Paul Ayine, Alhaji Mahama Fuseni, a great national footballer and a businessman.

“Takoradi Senior High School has served and continues to serve as expected but it is in great need. The school is currently in a very deplorable state.

“Its needs a complete facelift, such as painting, furniture, a well stocking of the library, to mention but a few.

"Though there is a construction of a 200- bed girls' dormitory it is nowhere near the accommodating of the over 800 girls in the school.

“I will want to make a passionate appeal to all stakeholders, particularly old boys and girls to come and support a worthy cause”.
