Talensi: Confusion rocks anti-Tongraana Group as Secretary resigns

A group calling itself, the Concerned Citizens of Talensi which has in the past few days advocated for the resignation of the Paramount Chief of the Talensi Traditional Area from Chairing the Board of the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) and also as Member of the Council of State has been hit by a setback following the resignation of its secretary.

The group has on several occasions organised press conferences and followed it up with a demonstration against the operations of a Chinese Mining company Shaanxi. It also has accused State and Traditional Authorities of conniving with the Chinese firm and supporting its ‘illegal’ activities.

Augustine Guure who has served as a secretary to the group since its inception resigned in less than 24-hours after the Talensi Traditional Council chastised the group and describing its members as miscreants and unmannered.

According to the sub-chiefs and Tindana’s (Traditional Land Owners) of the area, the group has shown gross disrespect to the Traditional Council and the Paramount Chief of the area Tongraan Naab Kugbilson Nalebegtang by accusing them of corruption amongst others.

In a press statement issued on May 20, 2019 the Concerned Citizens of Talensi described the Tongraana in unprintable words and impugned corruption and compromise on the part of the overlord of the area after his named was mentioned in a leaked tape by Rockson Ayine Bukari over attempts to kill a story by a journalist.

Though the Tongraana had earlier issued a statement dissociating himself from the comments of the Former Regional Minister, the group maintained the Traditional ruler should resign.

In a letter seen by MyNewsGh.com, the then secretary to the group said the decision to resign was deeply thought about adding in an interview that the group has achieved its goals but has subsequently lost the core purpose of its birth.

It reads in part” Dear Sir, Please accept this letter as notification that I am resigning from my position officially as the secretary of the group (CCT). It has been a difficult but thoroughly thought worth decision. I still uphold as high esteem the fundamental reasons that brought as together as a committee and to a large extent we have achieved our main goals.

It’s an honor for the recognition and opportunity accorded me by the people of Talenteng to help champion their course.

I’m proud of all members for the courageous efforts and wise counsel we supported each other with.

I have no doubt the committee shall stick to the core values and achieve some more successes.

Best regards.
