Talensi Constituency ready for by-election

The Talensi constituency in the Upper East Region is set for the parliamentary by-elections, on Tuesday, July 7.

Vehicles have been commandeered for the monitoring and carrying of voting materials to all the voting centres.

According to Mr James Arthur, Regional Director of the Electoral Commission (EC), the election would start at exactly 0700 hours and end at 1700 hours and would go by all the rules of political elections, including “no verification no vote”.

The constituency has 22 electoral areas and 72 polling stations.

Eight candidates would contest the election, including Dr Michael Namalteng Wombeogo, People’s National Party, Mr Benson Tongo Baba, National Democratic Congress, Mr Thomas Wuni Duanab , New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Joseph Toatoba, Progressive Peoples’ Party and Mr Dennis Atiah Tambil, Independent People’s Part.

The rest are Mr James Mambora Doubil, New Vision Party, Yaro Philip Bameezina, Ghana Freedom Party and Mr Isaac Kuugarzore, United Progressive Party.

Mrs Charlotte Kesson-Smith Osei, Chairperson of the EC is in the region to execute her maiden duty, since she was appointed by President John Dramani Mahama to replace Dr Kwadwo Afari-Djan, who has retired.

The by-election was made possible due to the resignation of the incumbent Member of Parliament for the area, Robert Nachinab Moses Doameng, who has now assumed the role of a traditional ruler.
