Talisman will not deter us - Tema Police warns robbers

The Tema Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Beatrice Zakpa Vib-Sanziri, has warned that the use of talisman by armed robbers will not deter the Police from making arrests.

“We are not afraid of your charms and talisman and we will arrest you if you make any attempt to rob,” she said.

DCOP Vib-Sanziri was speaking with The Spectator after effecting the arrest of two suspected armed robbers who allegedly robbed two victims at the Tema Community One, Ecobank and the Ghana Commercial Bank respectively, on Tuesday, where they had gone to cash money.

After their arrest, a talisman was found in a bag they were carrying.

DCOP Vib-Sanziri said nowadays it was common to search suspects and to find talismans on them and stated that if some robbers succeeded, “it was just because they were lucky and not because of the power inherent in the talisman” and advised them to rather stay away from crime since the talisman would not deter the police from dealing with them.

On that day, the alleged robbers, Mohammed Ahmed, 31, a motor bicycle repairer who lives at Dome and his accomplice, who after robbing, tried to run away on an unregistered motor bicycle but was hit by a police patrol vehicle and upon falling off were arrested.

Meanwhile, the Tema Regional Police Command has stated an operation to clamp down on users of motor bicycles who breach road traffic regulations and also use them to commit crimes.

Last Saturday, 161 motorbikes were impounded in the Ashaiman and Tema metropolis out of which 140 were registered and 21 unregistered.

DCOP Vib-Sanziri said the operations would be sustained to control the activities of criminals using motor bicycles and to ensure the safety of law abiding citizens.
