The mayor of Tamale, Iddrisu Musah Superior, has opened a two-storey toilet facility for the Tamale Central Market in the Northern Region.

The 32-seater toilet facility was constructed through a partnership between the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) and Gapo Enterprise and has washing sinks, mirrors, offices, bathrooms, a space for ablution and fans.

Speaking at the ceremony to open the facility, the mayor called on the traders to take proper care of it so it lasts.

The mayor indicated that the facility was in fulfilment of a promise he made to the people as the previous toilet facility had dilapidated.

Mr Superior said: “Now, we have the best toilet facility in Northern Ghana and I am most excited… When I first came here as a mayor, the toilet that was here was not usable…. it was not good for human use, so, I promised them that I was going to build a toilet for them; we started this a year ago and today Insha Allah, we have the best toilet facility in Northern Ghana”.

The mayor also indicated that despite its newness, people will be charged just Gp5 to use it.

He said other markets in the Tamale metropolis will soon get their share of modern toilet facilities, including the Aboabo market.
