Tanker Drivers lay down their tools

The loading rake at the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR), on Tuesday, was inactive because tanker drivers have withdrawn their services.

Mr Robert Forson, Chief Executive Officer of TOR, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that, "the tanker drivers are refusing to be loaded since morning".

He said the Executives of the Tanker Drivers Association have said they were attending to some of their colleagues, who were mistakenly arrested during the military-cum-police operations at the weekend at Ashaiman.

When GNA contacted the Tema Regional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police Agnes Sikanartey, she said those arrested were not with the Regional Police.

There is the likelihood that if the tanker drivers refused to load for the next two or three days, there was the possibility that there might be fuel shortage in the country, a petrol filling station Manager said.

Meanwhile, sources close to the Tema Police Headquarters said 35 persons including some tanker drivers, who were arrested on Saturday for siphoning fuel at Tema and Ashaiman, were put before a Tema Circuit Court on Tuesday
