Kadjebi, Aug. 15, GNA-A joint taskforce of Police and residents of Pampawie in the Kadjebi district have arrested two suspects in the Friday dawn highway robbery in the little town located on the Hohoe-Nkwanta road.
The suspects, of Fulani extraction are, Abdul Ousman and Mohammed Bube.
Mr. Seth Alifui, Kadjebi District Chief Executive, who briefed the Ghana News Agency, said the suspects gave in after their losing their bearings during a chase in the bush with two others absconding, later that Friday.
He however said the taskforce was still pursuing other members of the gang, who raped, molested and robbed passengers on buses plying that segment of the road on that fateful day.
Mr. Alifui said the marauding robbers got away with cash, mobile phones and other valuables.
He commended the bravado exhibited by the taskforce.
Madam Paulina Godzo, trader, and victim of the robbery, narrating the horrendous incident said their vehicle from Accra enroute to Kpassa in the Nkwanta North district, was shot at by the robbers when the driver attempted to reverse, forcing the vehicle to fall into a ditch.
She said the driver was hit in the arm with a cudgel by the robbers which tore through his flesh.
Madam Godzo said they were saved when the police patrol team emerged.
Meanwhile, the Kadjebi District Police Command headed by Superintendent Hope Bonuedi and most Commands have lately been cold towards the media perhaps due to a directive by the Reverend Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Mr. Nenyi Ampah-Bennin, urging all such media enquiries to be directed to the regional headquarters.
Mr. Bonuedi told the GNA on Saturday to contact the Regional Office for any information saying: "Am afraid, I could not give you any information, contact the regional command for any information."
