Three carjackers have shot and inflicted knife wounds on a 38-year-old taxi driver near Ankaful in the Central Region.

Kingsford Afedzie, a.k.a Joe, was shot in the hand by the carjackers in a desperate move to snatch his car key, but when that failed, they stabbed him in the abdomen causing his intestines to gush out.

He was left in critical condition by the roadside at Ankaful Junction.

Joe, whose condition has been stablised by doctors at the Interberten Hospital in Cape Coast, told Nhyiraba Paa Kwesi Simpson, host of Omanbapa morning show on Takoradi-based Connect FM that he managed to flag a passer-by who came to his aid and took him to hospital.

Narrating his ordeal from his hospital bed, Joe said it was at about 7:00pm last Thursday, May 30 when one of the assailants hired him from Super Star Hotel in Takoradi to take him to Cape Coast.

He said upon reaching Cape Coast, the assailant asked him to turn at Ankaful Junction which he obliged.

“When I drove a few meters ahead, he asked me to stop for him to urinate and suddenly two other guys emerged from the bush and together they attacked me,” he said.

According to the taxi driver, the three carjackers then pointed a gun at him and ordered him to hand over the keys to the car but he refused.

“This angered them and they started struggling with him,” he said, adding “they shot my hand in order to get the key.

“In all these, I still kept holding on to the key so they used a flick knife to stab me in the abdomen. I immediately became weak and fell down. They then took the key and drove the car off’ the victim,” Joe recounted

Joe few minutes after they left him for dead, he realised his intestines had gushed out so he removed his shirt, mustered strength and courage, and pushed the intestines back into his stomach.

Not long after, the taxi driver said he saw someone passing by and signalled him for help. He was then rushed to hospital for medical attention.

Police in the area have confirmed the incident to Connect FM, stating manhunt has begun to arrest the suspects and retrieve the black and yellow Chevrolet registered WR 665-19.
