Abetifi (E/R), Aug. 17, GNA- The Eastern and Greater Accra sector of the Teacher Trainees Association of Ghana (TTAG) has called on the government and political parties to exercise high sense of tolerance before, during and after the December general elections.
The association also urged Teacher Trainees at the various Training Colleges to learn to practice understanding, tolerance and respect the views of others.
These were contained in a communiqu=E9 issued at the end of the Association's seventh annual Delegates Congress at the Ramseyer Training Centre at Abetifi in the Eastern Region.
On the quality teacher education, the communiqu=E9 urged educational authorities to involve teacher trainees in all policies to improve the content of teacher education.
The communiqu=E9 called on the government and NGOs to help equip the basic schools, especially the rural ones, with more teaching and learning facilities to ensure quality teacher education.
"The Ministries of Local Government and Education, Youth and Sports (MOYS) should restructure the District Assemblies sponsorship scheme to enable all trainees to equally benefit, while the sector ministry should put in place measures to enable continuing trainees to acquire Diploma on completion of their training", the communiqu=E9 added.
Addressing the congress on the theme "Quality teacher education, a priority for democratic development of Ghana", the Eastern Regional Director of Education, Mrs Ewurabena Ahwoi, urged teachers to co-operate with parents and other stakeholders to improve the health needs and character moulding of children.
She said as teachers and role models in the communities, they should ensure modesty, self-control and decent dressing for the children to emulate.
The Regional Director gave assurance of the government's efforts towards the provision of educational infrastructure, teachers' accommodation and the supply of textbooks to enhance effective teaching and learning in basic schools.
The MP for Abetifi, Mr Eugine Atta Agyepong, said the teaching profession is a noble and unique one since the teacher taught all professionals and urged them to comport themselves to protect the integrity of the profession.
