Teacher assaults 9-year-old girl

Kumasi, Nov. 11, GNA - A Kumasi circuit court on Thursday granted a 35-year-old teacher, who allegedly fingered a nine-year-old girl, 50 million cedis bail with one surety to be justified. Martin Osei Gambrah pleaded not guilty to the charge and will re-appear on November 24.

Prosecuting, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Regina Addo-Yobo told the court presided over by Mr Ernest Yao Obimpeh that, the victim and her mother live in the same vicinity at Duase, near Kumasi with the accused.

She said on October 15, this year, the victim's mother sent her to fetch water from Gambrah's house. The prosecution said when the girl got to the Gambrah's house, he asked her to follow him to his room and she obliged. ASP Addo-Yobo said when they got to the room, Gambrah removed the clothes of the victim and inserted his fingers into her private part and after deriving his satisfaction, asked the victim to dress and sent her out of the room.

She said the victim kept her ordeal to herself until a few days later when she fell ill and when her mother questioned her, she told her what happened to her. The prosecution said the victim's mother therefore reported the case to the police, who gave her a police medical report form to the hospital and the report led to the arrest of the accused.
