Teacher jailed 20 years for defilement

Tarkwa (W/R), Aug 7, GNA- A Tarkwa Circuit Court, presided over by Mr. John Ajet Nasam, has sentenced a 30 year-old teacher to 20 years in jail for defilement. Presenting the facts of the case Inspector Edward Paddy of the Tarkwa Police said, the accused, Isaac Blay, was a pupil teacher at Atwereboanda Catholic Primary School near Aboso in the Wassa West District of the Western Region.

He said the accused took the victim, a 14 year-old pupil of class four and a daughter of the head teacher of the school as his girlfriend. The Prosecutor said the father of the victim who was the complainant, had information that the teacher was having an amorous affair with his daughter and on several occasions questioned the teacher about it, but he (the accused) denied it.

The Head Teacher even offered the accused a room in his house to enable him to monitor the accused, but he turned down the offer. The prosecutor said on July 20th this year, someone informed the complainant that his daughter was with the accused in his room. Inspector Paddy said the informant and the complainant went to the house of the accused and when he refused to open up after persistent knocking on his door they forced their way into the room. The accused was found naked with the victim on his bed, but he managed to escape from the room.

A case of defilement was reported at the Aboso Police station. He said a few hours later the accused reported himself to the Police to make a case of assault against the victim's father without knowing that he had already been reported to the police for defilement.
