Teacher remanded for stealing

Tema, July 23, GNA- A teacher at Klagon Basic School who was alleged to have teamed up with some boys to steal electrical gadgets, cloths and one thousand pounds sterling, has been remanded by the Tema Circuit Court 'A'.

An accomplice who is a seamstress, charged with aiding and abetting crime was also remanded.

Francis Mottey the teacher and Joana Sedem, seamsteress pleaded not guilty and will re-appear on August 10, 2004.

Police Chief Inspector Mary Assunta told the court that, in the evening of July 9, 2004, the complainant closed his door and left for all night prayers at Abossey Okai, Accra.

When she returned the following morning, she saw that thieves had broken into her room and stolen Sonny DVD deck, CD systems, type writer machine, seven half pieces of imported textiles, television set, blouses, 1,000 pounds sterling.

Chief Inspector Assunta said a report was made to the Sakumono police and investigations led to the arrest of the seamstress in whose room some of the stolen items were found.

When she was questioned as to how she got the items, she mentioned the teacher and two others who are on the run.
