Teacher's Certificate ‘A’ to face-out in 2015 - GES

Mr. Samuel Ansah, Director for Teacher Education Division of Ghana Education Service has stated that the Teacher’s Certificate A which used to be the entry professional certificate into the teaching profession in the country will face-out next year.

Mr. Samuel Ansah made this known when he was addressing members of the GNAT who were at their 4th Quadrennial (51st) National Delegates Conference in Accra.

He explained that from next year, the basic entry certificate into the teaching profession will be the Diploma in Basic Education.

He disclosed that the action is to help make the teaching profession more attractive to the young one because the diploma certificate will attract more incentive than that of the Certificate A.

Mr. Ansah said that GES and government are planning to issues all teachers with teaching license and those who will enter the profession will be issued with one year provisional Certificate after which if their performance meets the standards then they will be given full teaching license to teach in the country.

He stated that the implementation of the policy is part of the new education ACT 2008 (778).

He said that those with Diploma Certificate will be promoted to the next rank of the profession after teaching for four years but those with first degree in education will be promoted after two years of entering the teaching profession.
