Teacher trainees call on govt to pay their allowances

Kumasi, May 2, GNA - Teacher trainees from the Kumasi Ecclesiastical Province of the Catholic Church have called on the government to pay the allowances of first-year students in the various training colleges to reduce the strain and stress on them.

They said this would enable their parents and the administrations of the various colleges to ensure greater discipline in the colleges. A communiqu=E9 issued after their congress in Kumasi on Saturday stated that the present situation where first year teacher trainees who were in the third term had not yet received their allowance was putting a lot of hardships on them.

The teacher trainees expressed their gratitude to their Bishops for the support they give to education and pledged to place themselves at the service of the Bishops for the promotion of quality education in schools.

The communiqu=E9 called on all stakeholders in education, particularly parents, teachers and the government to work together to promote discipline in schools.

The teacher trainees said they will continue to allow themselves to be served by the church in order to be able to accept postings to the rural areas to teach for the sake of Jesus Christ.
