Teachers Not Paid Transfer Grants, Allowance

Chronicle investigation has revealed that about 86 teachers in basic schools who were transferred from various districts to Akuapem North District Assembly (ANDA) have not been paid their transfer grants. The teachers have also not been paid of their other allowances such as social allowances since they got transferred to the district on September 1 last year.

Speaking to the Chronicle during the investigation, some of the teachers said some of their colleagues who have been promoted to various grades like assistant director and superintendent have not been put on scale.

According to them, for about 15 months now, they have not recieved their back pay as well. It came out in the investigation that teachers note books and class registers were also not available in the various schools in the district since the beginning of the academic year.

When contacted the Akuapem North District Director of Education, Hajia Khatumi Mahama reacted that delays in payment of allowances and grants is a nationwide issue. But her district office has been able to pay some of the medical allowances, responsibility allowances that it has recieved, she said.

Hajia Khatumi hinted that other allowances that have not been paid are in the pipeline and when it is ready teachers would be paid.

About the unavailability of teachers note books and class registers, she stated that the district office has not recieved the materials from its headquarters. She assured that anytime the materials are supplied the district office will immediately supply the schools with them.
