Tarkwa (W/R), July 25, GNA - Teachers have been advised to give off their best and live above reproach to protect the image of the profession and contribute effectively to national development. Mr. Isaac Bimpong, the outgoing secretary of the Wassa West District branch of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), gave the advise at a lecture organised by the GNAT-Ladies Association (GNAT-LAS) as part of the week long cerebration of its first anniversary, at Tarkwa at the weekend.
The theme for the cerebration was "The role of the female teacher in the development of the child".
Mr. Bimpong said female teachers had the opportunity to rub shoulders with their male counterparts and urged them to take advantage of programmes by the Ghana Education Service (GES) to improve their lot. He said teachers as role models should exhibit a high sense of responsibility by eschewing vices.
Mr. Bimpong commended female teachers for their role in the development of education especially among girls.
Mrs Joyce Brantuo, GNAT-LAS District Secretary, appealed for assistance to enable the Association to operate more effectively. Members of the Association had earlier undertook a four-hour cleanup exercise at the premises of the District Directorate of the GES. 25 Jul 04
