Teachers build capacity on child-to-child methodology

Mankessim (C/R), Jan. 12, GNA - Thirty-six teachers from Mfantseman and the Abura-Asebu-Kwamenkese districts have attended a three-day capacity building workshop on child-to-child methodology at Mankessim. The workshop, which provided the participants with skills of guiding children to impart knowledge to their peers, was organised by the Mankessim Programme Area of Plan, Ghana, a child-centred non-governmental organisation.

Mr Paul Ackom, Head of the child, community-school programme unit of the University College of Education, Winneba, who served as facilitator at the workshop, explained that the child-to-child concept was developed by a medical officer and a teacher from the University of London in 1978 to promote health and impart knowledge through activities by children.

Mrs Mary Ackumey, another facilitator from the University College of Education, Winneba, said since its introduction in 1994, the concept has enhanced sanitation in practising schools.
