Teachers & pupils at Weweso ‘fight’ KMA Boss over closed new school block

Teachers and pupils of the Metropolitan Assembly Primary School at Weweso in Kumasi are angry over the continuous closure of a new school block by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA).

They accuse KMA Boss, Kojo Bonsu of being responsible for keeping the six-unit classroom block locked for several years after its completion.

The worried teachers want the facility opened to reduce the overcrowding in the old classroom, a situation which has made teaching and learning very uncomfortable and affecting academic work in the school.

Authorities of the school have resorted to organizing a shift system for the students to attend class in the morning and afternoon, a development which has caused truancy among some of the pupils.

It is unclear what the reason is for the closure of the school as attempts to reach authorities of KMA for an explanation have proved futile.

However, it is also the tradition in Ghanaian politics especially in an election year such as 2016 that most developmental projects like schools, health and market centres remain unused months after completion-awaiting official commissioning by either the President, M/DCEs to score political points.
