Kpetoe (V/R), March 01, GNA - A group of basic school teaching assistants employed under the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP) in the Adaklu Anyigbe District have appealed to the authorities to pay them their allowances.
The group told the GNA on Wednesday that since their appointments about five months ago, nothing had been said about their allowances. Their appointment letters were signed by Mr. Samuel Tumaku, the Adaklu Anyigbe District Director of the Ghana Education Service (GES) appointing them as teaching assistants with effect from 22nd September 2006 on a salary of 700,000 cedis a month.
The group said they were finding life difficult at their stations and that most of them have to rely on moneylenders for their survival. The group said morale among them has sunk so low due to the difficult times they were going through and pleaded with the authorities to give them their due.
When contacted an official of the Volta Regional Directorate of the GES, who wants to remain anonymous, said though the teaching assistants were teaching in schools under the GES, their appointments were under a programme being handled by the district assemblies.
