Techiman Assembly collects low revenue

Techiman, Dec 9, GNA - Mr. Michael Yaw Asante, Assembly Member for Asueyi electoral area in Techiman District of Brong Ahafo has rescinded his decision to resign from his position.

In a letter to Mr Emmanuel Twi-Yeboah, Presiding Member of the Techiman District Assembly and copied to Mr Isaac Osei-Antwi, District Chief Executive, Mr. Asante who resigned in March 24 this year, said he had rescinded his decision after the amicable solution of the impasse between him and the Assembly by the Gyasehene of the Techiman traditional area.

Mr. Twi-Yeboah announced this at the fourth ordinary meeting of the second session of the Assembly on Monday.

Mr. Osei-Antwi said between January and September the assembly collected 1,241,120,586 cedis out of estimated internally generated revenue of 2,768,000,000 cedis, representing 45 percent.

Mr. Osei-Antwi attributed the low performance to the many problems created by the crisis in Cote d'Ivoire that saw the low volume of trade in maize and yam on the market.

He said the Assembly within the same period spent about 6,092,281,636 cedis out of an approved budget of 9,624,313 cedis for the year, representing 63.3 percent.

Mr. Osei-Antwi said the Assembly is undertaking a number of development projects and these include four number classroom blocks, office and teachers' bungalows, gari processing machines, clinic and nurses' quarters and market structures financed from the VIP, HIPC, Common Fund and Prodicap II.

On the HIPC Fund released to the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development the assembly is benefiting from a 10-seat water closet toilet being undertaken at Techiman Magazine.
