Techiman Butchers appeal for abattoir

Techiman (B/A) Jan. 24, GNA- Techiman Butchers Association has appealed to Techiman Municipal Assembly to construct a standard abattoir at the central market to enable members to serve their numerous better. Mr. Mahama Seidu Nsuta, chairman of the Association told Ghana News Agency in an interview that the state of the current structure was "an eye-sore" and needed to be reconstructed.

The roof, floor as well as the netting are dilapidated, exposing the meat to flies.

Mr Nsuta said if an abattoir was constructed the association could slaughter more cattle to meet the demand of its growing number of customers and urged Municipal Assembly to expedite action on it. Mallam Inusah Mohammed, chief butcher, called on the Assembly to give the association the mandate to construct the abattoir if it was not ready to do so.

Mr. Ofori Ampofo, Environmental Health Officer, disclosed that a permanent new meat house was under construction under the Village Infrastructure Project (VIP) at the central market.
