The Techiman branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) says the massive development projects the Municipal Chief Executive for Techiman is undertaking on behalf of the people is a thing of great discomfort to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and threatens their prospects at political power.
They said this at a press conference held at the Bronkyempem Hall in Techiman Tuesday.
Mumuni Saaka Adam, the NDC organizer for Techiman South Constituency, who addressed the conference, refuted allegations raised by a group called the Youth Forum of the NPP, Techiman north in an earlier press conference.
He assured the residents of Techiman that the allegations against the MCE are baseless and should not be given any credibility.
“We wish to state clearly that the Honourable MCE, Alex Kyeremeh has not acquired any tipper truck. Neither has he acquired any Kia Rhino vehicles with the said costs. In the same vein the Municipal Chief Executive has no Hotel anywhere”.
“Meanwhile, in order to clear the air and the name of the Municipal Chief Executive, he has decided to take advice from his lawyers and pursue the issue legally, the outcome of which will be for the public to judge. Peter Mensah and his colleagues should therefore be prepared to produce evidence in court”, the press statement said.
According to the statement, the MCE has championed an unprecedented level of development for the Techiman municipality including classrooms, dormitory facilities, boreholes, a nurses and midwifery training school, construction of roads, procurement of tipper trucks, a pay loader and a grader to aid waste management activities and other relevant uses among others.
The constituency organizer, in addressing the press waved a copy of an audit report, saying that the municipal Chief Executive, having nothing to hide invited the Auditor General’s Department to conduct an audit from 2005 till date; adding that “If there is anyone to be investigated as they stated in their earlier statement, it is the NPP and its functionaries.”
He cited the former MCE, Prince Donyina and some other functionaries of the NPP who are being investigated by the Economic and Organised Crimes Office for various Economic crimes.
Meanwhile the MCE has cut the sod for the construction of two six unit classroom blocks for Kenten L/A Primary and Tuobodom Secondary School. He also donated twenty pieces of desktop computers to both schools in short ceremonies held on Tuesday.
