Techiman South MP inaugurates market project

Techiman (B/A), Jan. 23, GNA - Mr Prince Oduro-Mensah, MP for Techiman South in Brong Ahafo has inaugurated a 660 million cedis market project for Hausaline Electoral area at Techiman Zongo. The market, which will have 44 storerooms, is to be constructed through the Build, Operate and Transfer (BOT) system under the auspices of the Techiman Urban Council.

Each store is estimated at 15 million cedis and a beneficiary trader will pay a counterpart fund.

Mr Oduro-Mensah called on the traders to help complete the project and urged the people to initiate projects to attract government support. The NPP Government will continue to assist people in the rural areas, he said, and expressed the hope that the construction of the market would serve as an incentive for the growth of businesses. He advised the people, especially Imams, to co-operate for the development of the municipality.

Mr Isaac Osei-Antwi, Municipal Chief Executive, urged the Techiman Urban Council to speed up work on the project. He announced that a similar project would be put up at the Techiman-Tamale lorry park.

The MCE advised the people to register when the voters' register is re-opened to enable them to exercise their franchise during the general election.

Mr Davis Boamah-Asumadu, Chairman of the Council, said the project, which would be started this month was expected to be completed within six months.

He called for co-operation and support of the traders, saying the council and the municipal assembly had realized the need to give the town a face-lift to enhance the socio-economic development of the people.

Alhaji Jibreel Yakubu, Chief of Zongo Community, commended the Government and the Assembly for fulfilling its promise to bring development to the area but appealed to the Assembly to improve the drainage system and rehabilitate streets in the area.
