The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Techiman South Constituency of the Bono East Region has detailed how some thugs of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) visited mayhem at officials of the Electoral Commission (EC) and some party executives at the collation centre.

According to the NPP, some EC officials and NPP executives were physically assaulted when the NDC realized they had lost the polls in the area and were determined to halt the process.

“As you are all aware, the Presidential and Parliamentary elections commenced on 7th December 2024 nationwide and it was very smooth and peaceful in the Constituency throughout the entire process, as at 08:00 pm, my Constituency Collation team had taken custody of 279 Pink sheets from the 282 polling Stations for Parliamentary results and 279 Pink sheets for our Presidential results.

We then started our internal Collation and I wish to state categorically that as of 01:00am this morning(Sunday, December 8, 2024) our internal Collation team had completed the process with me getting 3, 173 votes over the NDC Candidate’s votes”, Member of Parliament(MP) for the area Martin Adjei Mensah-Korsah disclosed

He indicated that after our Collation with the victory margin, the Constituency Chairman, Mr. Muniru Tanko and the Constituency Elections and Research Officer Mr. Boapong George and two other party members were asked by our Agents at the Collation Center to bring them the Pink Sheets for them to do the Collation with the Electoral Commission Officers at the Constituency Collation Center which is located at the Divisional Police Headquarters, Techiman.

“Ladies and Gentlemen, to our greatest dismay, the team was assaulted by some NDC supporters at the entrance of the Divisional Police Office and took possession of our pink Sheets and destroyed them. They again vandalized the vehicle which our team was using. As if this was not enough for them, while the Collation process was ongoing at the Collation Center at the Divisional Police Office and having become aware that the NDC had lost the Parliamentary seat, NDC supporters forced themselves into the Collation room, overpowered the security detail at the station and vandalized the Pink Sheets and other valuables of the EC. These supporters took hostage the EC officials and everybody who was at the Collation room bringing the Collation process to an abrupt end”, revealed.

The MP called on the EC to as a matter of fact update him and his supporters on the way forward following the rowdy conduct of the NDC supporters in the area.

“I am by this calling on the EC to update me and my teeming supporters who cut across the various political divide on the way forward," he demanded.
