Teenage girl in illegal abortion case

Aflao, Aug. 10, GNA - A 14-year-old teenage girl of Agavedzi, a fishing community in the Ketu District, is being quizzed by the local police about her involvement in a criminal abortion case, which almost caused the live of the victim.

Agbesi Kabukie was alleged to have prepared and given a concoction to her friend, Ablavi Adama, 18, to terminate her three-month old pregnancy, leading to complications and her hospitalisation.

Mr Baba Moro, Assistant Superintendent of Police in charge of crime at Aflao told the GNA that, on July 17, this year, Ablavi Adama, who was living with her parents at Agavedzi, became unconscious following severe bleeding and was rushed to the District Hospital at Aflao.

He said when she regained consciousness the next day, Adama revealed that she took a concoction prepared and given to her by Kabukie.

Police subsequently invited Kabukie for questioning.

Meanwhile, Adama is still responding to treatment while Kabukie, now on police inquiry bail is assisting in further investigations.
