Teenager Murders Boyfriend

A 35-year-old Lebanese businessman in Kumasi, Billals Mograbi, has allegedly been murdered by his teenage girlfriend. The name of the girl is not immediately known but is said to be a half caste.

The reason behind the crime is also yet to be established but the girl, believed to be 18, fled in a waiting white private car and the police have mounted an intensive search for her and some unidentified men who were in the car.

After shooting Billals, the girl went berserk and opened gunfire from the pump action gun which she wielded at the deceased’s brother. Ibrahim Sherif and a house held by name Joyce Balare. The shot brushed off the leg of Sherif but the one fired at Joyce missed target. The remains of Billals have been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) morgue pending further police action.

Ashanti Regional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Ofosu Mensah Gyeabour, said in an interview that Billals was a dealer in car spare parts at Asokwa, a suburb of Kumasi. He said on September 29, Billals took the girl to his house for the first time and she remained there until October 7.

ACP Gyeabour said in the morning of Tuesday, October 7, Billals, accompanied by the girl, left the house to his store at Asokwa. Moments afterwards, the girl returned to the house followed later by Billals.

The police chief said immediately Billals entered the room, the girl, armed with a pump action gun which belonged to the deceased, shot at him, hitting his mid-section.

He stated that the girl came out of the room and fired a shot at the house-help but missed. She then turned her attention on Sherif and the bullets brushed off his leg. Sensing danger, Sherif took to his heels but the girl gave him a chase and again fired but he was lucky as the bullets flew off.

ACP Gyeabour said the girl returned to the room where Billals was lying and snatched a pistol which he had on him and opened fire again on the hapless man who lay in a pool of blood. However he did not die immediately. She went out with the pump action gun and the pistol and fled in the waiting car which was parked about 300 meters away.

The police chief said the police at Ridge were alerted of the incident, but when they went to the scene the girl had fled.

He said the unconscious Billals was sent to KATH where he died the following day, October 8.
