Dr. Grace Ayensu-Danquah, aspiring Member of Parliament for Essikado- Ketan Constituency in Western Region, has questioned political ambition of incumbent Member of Parliament, Joe Ghartey.
She says, the lawmaker must tell constituents what he intends to do again in the constituency after 16 years of offering failed leadership.
"Tell me what you can do in four years that you didn't do in sixteen years. So if you can't tell me what you have done in 16 years, and you come to stand in front of me and tell me I should give you another four years?", she questioned.
Speaking to journalists in Takoradi on a wide range of issues on Sunday afternoon, including her drive and determination to introduce positive change into politics in the constituency, as she represents the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the upcoming parliamentary elections in December, she said the time to shake up the entrenched political system in the Sekondi Takoradi Metropolitan Area was now or never, because the situation on the ground was more than an ICU.
According to the aspiring lawmaker, the partisanship nature of politics in the oil city for many years, has not only affected development, but denied the affected constituencies, honest, true and quality leaders.
As a result, Dr. Ayensu-Danquah has pledged to enter into a social contract with her constituents when elected into office as the Member of Parliament for Essikado-Ketan.
According to the Medical Practitioner, the electorates could kick her out after four years if she fails to deliver or redeem her pledge.
She expressed worry over the 16 year monopoly enjoyed by the incumbent Member of Parliament as the representative of the people of Essikado-Ketan
"We have had one person who has been in charge of us for 16 solid years, who is asking for another four years, who can't even account for what he has done in the last 16 years", she emphasized.
Consequently, she appealed to the electorates in the area to consider development as the primary focus before determining in terms votes, the kind of leadership suitable for the area irrespective of ones party affiliation.
She used the late Albert Busumtwi Sam, one of the pioneer lawmakers in Sekondi Takoradi, whose footprints include the Sekondi Fishing Harbour as an example to buttress her point, that political affiliation has nothing to do with development since it affects Tom Dick and Harry in the specified geographical area.
In the light of this, she assured her constituents of her determination to distance partisanship from her dealings with electorates since they form the nucleus of the constituency.
The US trained surgeon could not fathom why some constituencies in Western Region including Ellembelle have had the privilege of enjoying good leadership and Essikado-Ketan still lagging behind and languishing in poverty and under development.
"We can not continue this way, something has to change" she thundered in anger.
