The Central Assembly of God Church, Tema Community Four last Sunday launched its 50th anniversary celebrations at a ceremony at the churches auditorium in Tema.
The yearlong celebrations which is on the theme “His Mercy Endureth Forever” Psalm 136, was attended by members of sister churches, pioneer members of the church and other members of all walks of life.
It was graced by two seating Members of Parliament in the area notably the MP for Tema Central, Kofi Brako and Nii Kwatei Titus Glover, MP for Tema East.
In a symbolic gesture the senior pastor of the church, Rev. David Nabegmado blew the ‘Horn of the Ram’ to herald the year of the jubilee amidst singing of a special rendition of the popular song “Days of Elijah” to commemorate the occasion.
Rev. Nabegmado explained that the jubilee year is a special privilege for every member of the church to be liberated and also to make peace with one another.
He noted that the church which was started in 1968 has over the years grown in leaps and bounds and has planted many churches around Tema and other parts of the Greater Accra region.
He was of the opinion that the church has every reason to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the church because the Lord has been faithful to the church and that the theme of the year “His mercies endureth forever” is very appropriate than ever before.
The General Secretary of the Assemblies of God Church, Ghana, Rev. Dr. John Ghartey, who delivered the sermon, emphasized that the jubilee is not just a day or a mere occasion but a whole year accompanied by prophetic declarations that would made impact in the lives of members throughout the year.
Quoting Leviticus 25:8-13, Rev. Dr. Ghartey said “Count off seven Sabbath years—seven times seven years—so that the seven Sabbath years amount to a period of forty-nine years. Then have the trumpet sounded everywhere on the tenth day of the seventh month; on the Day of Atonement sound the trumpet throughout your land.
Continuing he said “Consecrate the fiftieth year and proclaim liberty throughout the land to all its inhabitants. It shall be a jubilee for you; each of you is to return to your family property and to your own clan. The fiftieth year shall be a jubilee for you; do not sow and do not reap what grows of itself or harvest the untended vines. For it is a jubilee and is to be holy for you; eat only what is taken directly from the fields. In this Year of Jubilee everyone is to return to their own property”.
Rev. Ghartey assured the assembly that in the year of jubilee nothing can enslave them because of God has instituted it to liberate his people.
