Tema DSW records high cases of child maintenance

Tema, Feb 02, GNA -- A total of 1,077 cases were recorded by the Tema Department of Social Welfare in 2004 out of which child maintenance had the highest with 368.

Mr George Asaan, the Municipal Welfare Officer, who spoke to the acquire wealth to go to bed with any man just to get money. "Most of these men are married and refuse to accept responsibility when pregnancy comes."

He expressed regret that some of the ladies could even be in a relationship for more than a year without knowing the true identity of the man, even his real name.

"Some come to lodge complaints but only give the nickname of the man and it becomes difficult to address the letter inviting the person", he said.

Mr Asaan mentioned lack of logistics and vehicles as major problems confronting the Department and said the telephone lines for instance has been out of order for some time now making it difficult for them to follow up cases.
