Tema East NDC urges Political stakeholders to condemn ROPAB

Tema, March 02, GNA - Members of the Tema East constituency of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have called on all political stakeholders and civil society organisations not to relent in condemning the passage of the Representation of the People's Amendment Bill into law.

It described the assertion that "minority have their say and have their way" as dangerous and unfortunate phenomenon that would continually divide a nation.

In a statement issued and signed by Mr B. Sallam, Constituency Chairman and Mr Baba Abu Baseman, Executive Member, the members expressed regret that the rush in passing the law in spite of the numerous interventions and calls from recognized bodies like religious leaders, trade unionist and political parties for restrain to allow for further deliberations and to free it of legal and social controversies. "Bulldozing the bill through shows the gross disregard the NPP government has for the very people who also have stakes in the affairs of this country", it said. The statement questioned the in volvement of the other interest groups who are going to be affected by the law that it described as "a recipe for chaos and disaster in the country." It mentioned inadequate facilities in hospitals, unemployment, environmental filth and poverty as pressing issues facing the country that rather needed to be looked at "than this which has set to waste time and public funds."

The statement said the government and the majority in parliament will be doing the country a lot of good if it passed the Disability, Freedom of Information and the Whistle Blowers bills with speed to check corruption that is ravaging the country.
