Following an appeal from members of the New Patriotic Party for the winning tickets that the party fielded in the 2016 general election to be repeated in December 2020, the delegates in the Tema East Constituency have responded positively.
At a news conference on Sunday, the delegates announced that they have made a decision for an Akufo-Addo/Titus-Glover ticket.
“Even before the request would come for the party to maintain the 2016 winning team for the December 2020 elections, most of us the delegates in Tema East had decided on Nii Kwartei Titus-Glover for our Parliamentary ticket".
“It is my pleasure, therefore to announce to the NPP family that in Tema East here, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will be massively endorsed while Nii Titus-Glover will be massively elected as our Parliamentary Candidate,” said Mr. Maxwell Aboagye, the NPP’s Polling Station Chairman for Sea Light.
According to him, the delegates were going to make a massive statement with the endorsement of President Akufo-Addo as Standard Bearer and the re-election of Titus-Glover as a Parliamentary candidate.
“It is our resolve that we will not come out of the Parliamentary primary with less than 90 per cent of the votes for Mr Titus-Glover, and when the time comes for us to endorse the President for the Presidential ticket, we will endeavor to give 100 per cent endorsement,” he said.
Mr Aboagye was flanked on the high table by Mr. Justice Annang Mensah, Polling Station Organizer for Dade-Agbo Electoral area and another delegate, Mrs. Fati Alhassan, who is strongly advocating the maintenance of the 2016 winning team as well.
The NPP holds its Parliamentary primaries across the country on 20th June.
According to Mr Aboagye, Titus-Glover who was being contested by an unknown man was clearly the finer choice for Tema East NPP.
“His developmental achievements resonate with the people of our Constituency. Some of them include; modern football and lorry parks, improvement in the road network, hospital expansion and the improvement in educational infrastructure, sanitation that helped fishermen in diverse ways.
“Our MP has secured jobs for many of our youth and in this Covid-19 era, he has shown leadership that even in Tema East, our opponents are confessing that he is a good leader,” Mr. Aboagye said.
He also praised the MP’s affability and his engagement with the youth of the Constituency. “Among the youth, his nickname is ‘Shatta Wale MP,’ he already has the votes of the youth. Titus-Glover does not need to be marketed again!”
On his part, Mr. Justice Annang Mensah, justified his decision to cast his vote for the sitting MP come 20th June, saying Titus-Glover was a unifier and a cultured man who had great appeal among traditional rulers.
Mrs. Fati Alhassan, polling station women organizer for harbour electoral area said “Our hardworking MP enjoys the support of we the Muslims, Christians, Traditionalists, the elderly, the youth and he is even the darling of the women caucus of the party because of his great achievements. In fact, Titus-Glover’s constituency is a huge one and he will win the primary election massively”.
