Two hundred and ninety cases of fire outbreak were recorded from January to September in the Tema Metropolis this year, Madam Rosemary Brobby, Ghana National Fire Service, (GNFS) spokesperson in Tema, has disclosed.
Out of the total, domestic fires topped with 114 cases, vehicular fires 41cases, commercial and electrical fires, 38 cases, bush fires, 23 cases, industrial fires,19 cases, while spillage and other cases 13.
Institutional fires amounted to eight cases. There was no marine fire incident.
In an interview with Ghana News Agency, Madam Brobby said no casualty was recorded in all circumstances.
She asked the public to assist the GNFS with the necessary pieces of information in their quest to find out what caused the fires.
According to her, the service has the mandate to ensure the safety of all citizens and “we will do well to intensify our public education drive to reduce the incidence of fire in Tema”.
She advised the public to switch off all their electrical gadgets when not in use especially, when they are leaving home or going to sleep to reduce electrical fires.
