Tema MCE inducted into office

Tema, Aug. 3, GNA - Ms Gloria Akuffo, Deputy Greater Accra Regional Minister, on Wednesday called on staff of District Assemblies and Assembly Members to exhibit commitment on their chosen task to ensure that the decentralisation concept functioned to perfection. They must, therefore, bury difference that they might have and come together with a common goal to forge ahead to champion the cause of the assemblies.

She said political appointees would serve their term of office leaving them at post so they should offer constructive and meaningful suggestions to the Chief Executive to promote good administration. The Deputy Minister made the call when she inducted Mr David Quaye Annang, Municipal Chief Executive for Tema into office at a ceremony at Tema.

She presented the handing over documents to Mr Annang and explained that the ceremony had been delayed because President John Agyekum Kufuor was not in the country. Mr Fatz Nartey, Regional Coordinating Director, said though the Constitution conferred the right of association of the people, as Civil Servants they had to serve the Government of the day. He called for honesty and advised them to refrain from backbiting, anonymous letter writing and negative tendencies and to rather support the new Chief Executive with their rich experience for him to deliver. Mr George Scott, Tema Municipal Coordinating Director, indicated that plans were underway to put in place a new taskforce to mobilise revenue. Mr Annang called for the support of the entire Staff and the Assembly Members by working harder to develop the Municipality saying that his priority was revenue mobilisation.

He pledged to collaborate with the technical personnel of the Assembly and to embark on effective communication drive with the public on the need to be alive to their civic responsibilities like activities towards the environment and the paying of levies and property rates. 03 Aug. 05
