Tema,(Greater Accra) 3 Nov. The Tema municipal office of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture is introducing new programmes to increase output in the crop, livestock and fisheries sub-sectors. Mr. Julius Ametefe, Tema municipal director of Food and Agriculture, said this at a MOFA staff meeting designed to introduce them to the new programme and their roles in a decentralised department of the Tema Municipal Assembly (TMA). He said in the crop sub-sector, emphasis will be placed on the promotion of increased crop production through improved intensive farming practices as well as area expansion on sustainable basis. It will also focus on the development of small-scale irrigation schemes and improved productivity of the live-stock sub-sector through better animal health, nutrition and water supplies. Efforts will also be made to ensure sustainable exploitation of marine water. "Our task is to prove that Tema is not rpt not just for industrial productivity but agricultural production as well." . Mr. Ametefe reminded the staff that MOFA's policy document known as ''the medium term agricultural development programme'' provides a platform for realizing the goals of Vision 2020.
