Tension at Korle Bu Hospital

SUBJECT: Reports Of Tension In Korle Bu

RELEASE: IMMEDIATE

The Board and Management wish to assure the general public that there is no tension or any disturbance in Korle Bu as being speculated in sections of the media.

The facts are that five Directors were appointed subject to a one-year probation by the Board of the Hospital in consultation with the Public Services Commission.

Towards the end of the probation period (May 2011) the Board requested and the afore-said Directors submitted themselves to a performance review by the Board.
After the review, the Board found that the Director of Administration’s performance was unsatisfactory and thus revoked his appointment on 2nd September, 2011.
Not satisfied, the affected Director instituted an action in High Court Accra challenging the Board’s decision. He further filed a motion for an injunction to restrain the Board from interfering with his work as Director of Administration pending the determination of the suit. This motion has since been dismissed by the High Court Accra on Friday, 4th November, 2011.
In the light of the Court’s ruling and for a smooth operation of the Hospital, the Director of Administration was subsequently asked to hand over to the Deputy Director of Administration to act pending the determination of the substantive suit by the Court.
The Board and Management wish to assure the general public the Hospital is still running smoothly and patients, staff as well as visitors are going about their normal business.
