Tension is building up in the Savannah Region town of Bole after the house of a rival chief was torched by unknown persons on Wednesday morning.

MyNewsGh.com gathered that the confusion halted Eid-Dul Fitr prayers after the Chief Imam was informed that any attempt to converge at the usual prayer ground could be a recipe for a bloodbath.

Police sources have revealed that Chief Bukari who has been enskinned as traditional ruler of Bole by the Yagbonwura, Tutumba Bore Esa has since been smuggled out of the town to diffuse the tension.

Meanwhile, the Vice President of the Gonja Traditional Council, Buipewura Abdulai Jinapor II is calling for cool heads to prevail insisting that Bolewura Bukari is the legitimate occupant of the skin

“Yagbonwura is indisposed and in Accra for a checkup. I stand on his behalf to speak to the people of Bole and wish to say Yagbonwura’s appointed Bolewura Bukari who was at Damongo has entered Bole. I appeal to everyone in Bole and the whole Gonjaland to exercise restraint. Let us all listen to what the Savannah Regional Minister and DCE will say. Those threatening to start shooting should stop. Don’t take guns or you kill your brother. Everything will end soon. I’m the Chairman of the mediating Committee of Eminent Chiefs and we will do the right thing”, he advised.

His comments were in response to earlier threats of bloodbath by a section of residents over the forceful entry into the town by the Yagbonwura’s enskinned Chief.

Reinforcement of the armed police and military personnel has been deployed to the town to avert reprisal attacks.

Bole currently has two rival chiefs with both claiming legitimacy to the skin which hitherto was never greeted with violence in the selection processes.
