Tetteh elected Greater Accra Drivers' Chairman

Accra, Dec. 12, GNA - Alhaji Antieye Tetteh, was on Friday retained as Chairman of the Greater Accra Regional branch of Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) of TUC when he was returned unopposed for another four-year term in a keenly contested election in Accra.

The election, supervised by the Electoral Commission saw Mr Robert Sabah, becoming the Vice Chairman after polling 253 votes to beat Mr Kobina Badu, who got 97 votes, while Mr Emmanuel Kwakuvie, the former Second Trustee was elected unopposed as the first trustee.

The Second Trustee position went to Mr Jacob Odai, who polled 272 votes to beat Mr Abdallah Shuaib, who received 73 votes.

The officers were sworn in by the National Deputy General Secretary in-charge of operations of GPRTU, Mr Abdul Bashiru Yakubu Flashman, who urged them to work in the interest of the nation and to uphold the tenets of the Union.

In a message, Alhaji Tetteh congratulated the union members for their maturity and discipline and urged drivers to exhibit those virtues at all times in their operations, which would help reduce accidents to the minimum, especially during this period of the year when the travelling public struggled to get to their loved ones.

He warned drivers against reckless driving and being drunk when driving.
