Thanksgiving service held to mark Asantehene's fifth anniversary

Kumasi, May 6, GNA- The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II on Thursday attended a thanksgiving service at the Saint Cyprian's Anglican Cathedral in Kumasi to mark the fifth anniversary of his ascension to the Golden Stool.

The service was attended by Bishops and heads of the various churches in the metropolis, chiefs and people from all walks of life. Prayers were said for Asantehene, the nation and for peaceful elections in December.

Preaching the sermon, the Right-Reverend Daniel Yinkah-Sarfo, Anglican Bishop of Kumasi, called on traditional rulers to be truthful and always seek the guidance of God.

He said it was only through that they could successfully carry out their good policies and programmes.

Bishop Yinkah-Sarfo commended the Asantehene for cherishing peace and stability in governance, adding, "Otumfuo has really exhibited his leadership prowess with the number of development projects he has initiated since he was enstooled".

"You have demonstrated your ability to revitalise the whole nation to harness its resources to facilitate the promotion of education, health and industry as vehicles of national development".

The Reverend Dr Festus Yeboah-Asuamah, Dean of Saint Cyprian's Cathedral, asked all religious bodies to pray for peaceful elections in the December polls.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu was enstooled as the 16th Asantehene on April 26, 1999, in succession to Otumfuo Opoku Ware II.
