The New Patriotic Party parliamentary candidate for Akuapem North, Sammi Awuku, has described the 2024 elections as a defining choice between Ghana's past and future.
In a recent interview with Joy News, he stressed the stark contrast between the two main candidates, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the NPP and John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress.
He argued that voting for Mahama represents a step into the past while noting that the former president, limited to a single term if elected, would lack accountability to voters since he would not seek re-election.
"At the end of the day, we carry a very profound message, this election is between the future and the past. 2024 election between Ghana's past and Ghana's future. The past being that a vote for the NDC's Presidential candidate, he will not come back to account for anything. He has only one term to deliver," he added.
He noted that a vote for Dr. Bawumia on the other hand represents a commitment to Ghana's future.
He pointed out that Dr. Bawumia’s policies, if successfully implemented, would pave the way for his potential re-election, ensuring continuity and accountability.
"The future representing Dr. Bawumia and the bold solutions that he is presenting. If Bawumia becomes President and performs to the satisfaction of Ghanaians, he will come back," he noted.
Addressing the economic challenges faced by Ghana, Awuku pointed out that every year brings its own difficulties.
He noted that the global economic downturn, compounded by the COVID -19 pandemic, has affected nations worldwide, including Ghana.
Despite these challenges, Sammi Awuku argued, the NPP has consistently supported Ghanaians and worked to address their needs.
"There has never been an occasion in Ghana's history, that somebody will tell me that once upon a time things were tougher and now things are better.
"Every year comes with its own challenges and I'm one of the people who is also of the unshaken faith that the challenges we face as a government, as a people and as citizens of the world globally is not limited to the Ghanaian situation," he explained.
He called on voters to reflect on the progress made by the Akufo-Addo government and vote for Dr. Bawumia.
