The Birth Of Methodist Youth Assembly In Washington D.C.

COME & JOIN US!!

The 4th Week of July, 2013 will go down in history not only as the week in which the 3rd heir to the British throne was born to William and Kate in London, but also the week in which the Methodist Youth Assembly was born to the North America Mission of the Methodist Church Ghana in Washington DC.

While the young prince represents the future of the British Monarchy, the Methodist Youth Assembly represents the future of the Methodist Church Ghana in North America; being US and Canada. The birth of the Youth Assembly should also warm the hearts of many British when they recognize that these young Methodists are also the spiritual grand children of the world- famous evangelist and founder of Methodism, John Wesley, in the middle of the 18th century. About 200 registered youth representatives from the various NAM Circuits including Canada, Atlanta, Delaware, New Jersey, and New York…etc. will start arriving in Washington DC on Friday, July 26, to prepare for the Opening Ceremony on Saturday, July 27 at 9:30 am. The Opening Ceremony will be officiated by the Supervising Mission Coordinator, Bishop Benjamin K. Asare, M.A, as the representative of the Presiding Bishop and Methodist Church, Ghana, who arrived in the States with his wife in 2011

The theme for the 3-day Spirit-led Celebration is: “Cultivating the Spirit –Filled Holistic Transformation of Society: The Role of the Youth “; and the Key-note Address will be delivered by Very Rev. Kofi Bart Martin, Minister-in-Charge CMC, and a key founding minister of the North America Mission. The theme is a reflection of the new Vision of Methodist Church Ghana adopted at the 2012 Conference: “To build a vibrant Spirit-filled and Spirit-led Church for the holistic transformation of society.” It is also consistent with the Church’s Mission: “To equip the Church for ministry to the world through the demonstration of Christian faith and love. It is expected that the key note address will explain the role of the youth in the Church and challenge them to diligently play their part in realizing the Church’s, Mission and Vision. The youth will then be guided by the Moderator, of the Assembly, Very Rev Dr. Jacob French, to deliberate on their challenge in workshops culminating in their own resolutions and Communiqué. After this hard work comes time for socialization and the Youth Gospel Rock, and Prayer Session led by Rev Samuel Osam Duodu, the minister in-Charge, Ebenezer Methodist Church, Columbus, Ohio.

Several Church and public dignitaries are expected to bless and honor the occasion with their presence on Saturday and Sunday. The list includes the Lay Chairman of the North American Mission, Brother Baffour Amoateng, and many others. You and your church members, family and friends are cordially invited to come and join us for the celebration at 4-H Youth Conference Center, 7100 Connecticut Ave. Chevy Chase, MD, 20815
