The EC will publish polling station results – Dr. Bossman Asare

The Electoral Commission (EC) has assured the general public and stakeholders that, in the interest of transparency, the Commission will publish polling station results from the December 7th elections on its website.

Deputy Chairman for Corporate Services Dr. Bossman Eric Asare confirmed this on Sunday evening's The Probe on Joy News.

Responding to the call by Dr. Mohammed Ibn Chambas on the EC to publish Polling Station results as a way to build public trust in the Commission, Dr. Bossman Eric Asare disclosed that the EC had discussed the issue and was emphatic that Polling Station results would be published on its website, in order to enable candidates who wish to challenge the results of the elections to easily have access to the data they require to pursue their legal redress.

The public would recall that several civil society organisations (CSOs) have made a similar call to the EC to publish polling station results as part of measures to ensure transparency of the 2024 elections.

Last month, Dr. Kwesi Jonah of the Institute for Democratic Governance (IDEG) and Rev. Dr. Fred Deegbe of the Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana) called on the EC to adopt a system that will electronically transmit election results directly from polling stations to the Commission's website in the 2024 Elections.

Dr. Bossman Eric Asare, on Sunday evening, was clear and emphatic that the EC will publish polling station results on its website once all the results have been received from the polling stations.

This revelation on Sunday night, to quote Dr. Ibn Chambas, should "sound like music in the ears" of members of the Diplomatic Community, CSOs, political parties, and indeed the general public.

It is expected that, as Dr. Ibn Chambas suggested, this move by the EC should engender trust in the Commission and confidence among stakeholders that the EC indeed has nothing to hide and that the 2024 elections would be transparent, free, and fair.
