Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader, has stated that he is giving the government some leeway and has not yet launched a full-fledged opposition, even though he is the head of the opposition in Parliament.

He mentioned that the time for a more active pushback has not yet come. In an interview on Channel One TV's Point of View, monitored by GhanaWeb, Afenyo-Markin recalled how the National Democratic Congress (NDC) minority, during their time in opposition, made governance difficult with their unrelenting stance.

He also commented on the fierce opposition his party faced while in power.

“At one point, the NDC adopted a posture that made it difficult to govern. Now, I’m giving them a breather. I haven’t started any opposition yet. No, no. I’m not opposed to them. I’ve given them a great moment to start their government,” he stated.

Despite this, Afenyo-Markin praised Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga for his ability to unite both the Majority and Minority factions in Parliament, highlighting his diplomatic style.

“Ayariga’s diplomacy is at an all-time best. He engaged in some useful discussions that led to the apology,” Afenyo-Markin added.
