Madam Akua, a 60-year-old merchandise trader, has recalled how she quit her hairdressing career due to a spiritual attack that almost claimed the life of a friend. 

Narrating the story, the trader stated that she was an apprentice, and as they were braiding a client’s hair, a senior apprentice mistakenly cut the client’s hair.

They saw it as an error that is mostly committed by hairdressers, but it didn’t turn out to be a normal error, as the lady who committed that offence was severely attacked and taken to Benin for treatment.

“I learned hairdressing as well. There are a lot of issues surrounding the hairdressing business. I remember how a senior apprentice mistakenly cut a client’s hair. She didn’t report to work the next day, so I went to her place to check up on her. I got there and was told she had been taken to Benin because some parts of her body were swollen due to the client’s haircut. They said the lady’s hair was not ordinary, and she didn’t seek permission to cut the hair,” she said. 

Despite what happened, she managed to complete the work and is now a registered hairdresser. However, she was engulfed in fear, which denied her the opportunity to start a business of her own.

She has realized she shouldn’t have let that incident restrict her from opening a hairdressing salon, but she says she’s still fighting to make that career see the light of day. 

“I completed the work and even have a certificate, but I got frightened by what happened to the lady, so I never opened a shop. When I came of age, I realized I shouldn’t have quit my career because of that incident. Why should you be afraid when you have God? If I get a shop, I will open a salon. I haven’t given up on that career. I’m still pressing on, and I know God will make a way,” she said. 

The trader disclosed this while speaking with GhanaWeb’s reporter, Eugenia Diabah, on Everyday People.
