Accra, March 12, GNA - Vice President John Dramani Mahama on Saturday stated that the death of Mr Kwame Sanaa Poku Jantuah, a former cabinet member during the Nkrumah Administration was not a loss to the family alone, but to the entire nation.

He said the late Jantuah who died at the age of 89, represented the last of the old generation of politicians, an indication that the baton was being handed over to the current generation to accomplish what they had embarked on several years ago.

Vice President Mahama stated this when the bereaved family and members of the Convention People's Party (CPP) called on him at the Castle, Osu to officially announce the death of the former statesman. Vice President Mahama announced that government would assist the family of the late Jantuah to give him a befitting state burial and final funeral rites.

"We need to celebrate his death, rather than mourn, for he contributed towards the unity, economic independence and the removal of the people from the clutches of poverty and we can never forget that feat."

Vice President Mahama on behalf of the people and government of Ghana, expressed condolences to the bereaved family and the CPP for the death of late Jantuah and promised that government would be fully represented at the funeral.

Mr Ladi Nyalander, Chairman of the CPP described the late Jantuah as a man with strong will, strong sense of purpose who fought to preserve the unity of Ghana in the wake of political opposition during Nkruamah's regime.

Nana Frimpong Ansah, leader of the family delegation announced that the late Jantuah who was a staunch Catholic, would be buried on March 26, at Mampongteng in the Ashanti Region where he hailed from.
