John Abdulai Jinapor, Member of Parliament(MP) for Yapei-Kusawgu, recently appeared on Oyerepa TV to address the ongoing economic difficulties and power crises affecting the Akufo-Addo administration.

The NDC politician did not mince words as he pointed out the heavy burden Ghana is carrying, financially and in terms of its electricity supply.

Speaking candidly, Jinapor explained that the current energy sector challenges, referring to frequent power outages, were directly linked to Ghana's massive debts to its power-generating partners.

These debts are owed to companies that supply electricity to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), which then distributes it to households nationwide. He underscored the severity of the situation, calling it a "ticking time bomb" for the country's future.

"It's like Ghana is in a mortuary right now. The economy is in critical condition," Jinapor stated bluntly during his interview.

He explained that the debt situation had caused significant problems for the power sector, leading to the recurring power cuts that have plagued the nation for years. For citizens, the impact of unreliable electricity is felt daily, with businesses suffering and homes left without power for long periods.

However, despite his grim assessment of the country's state, Jinapor offered a glimmer of hope for Ghanaians.

He emphasised that Ghana's situation was not beyond recovery, but the right leadership was necessary to restore the country's economy and stabilise the power sector.

"Ghana hasn't reached a point of no return," he assured viewers.

"With the right decisions and a focused government, we can recover quickly. We've been through tough times before, and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is ready to bring back prosperity when given the chance."
