After suffering the heaviest defeat in Ghana’s political history as a sitting president, the Ashanti Region Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, has stated that it was expectant of Mr. Mahama to draw a curtain on his political career in 2016.

Mr. Bernard Antwi-Boasiako popularly known as Chairman Wontumi explained that he was heartbroken to hear former President Mahama succumbing to pressure from persons in the National Democratic Congress to contest as their candidate in 2020.

In an address at the Business School of the Oxford University in the UK last Friday, former President Mahama opened up on his comeback stating that he tried all his best to rest and continue serving his country as a statesman but members of his party kept pressurizing him to put himself up for the post.

This response has drawn a sharp riposte from Chairman Wontumi, who claims former President Mahama has stooped too low to be controlled by "smallboys" in the NDC.

“Per what Mahama has said it is clear he isn’t a bold person who can take personal decisions, he is indecisive. Mahama is just a coward allowing himself to be controlled by small boys in the NDC”, Chairman Wontumi noted.

Flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress NDC, John Dramani Mahama has described the presidency as “stressful” and a venture he would rather forgo and spend more time with his family if he had his own way

Asked why he still wants to become president, he said he tried all his best to rest and continue serving his country as a statesman but members of his party kept pressurizing him to put himself up for the post.
