The accounts of this story and the supposed mystery behind its disappearance have been shared by someone who cannot be termed as an authority on the matter, but one fact remains; that Fort Sophia no longer exists.

Accounts from some online websites, including Wikipedia, say the only thing that currently remains regarding this fort, one of the four built by the Germans when they came to colonial Ghana, is its foundation.

But even with that, Goshers, a popular video creator, says no such remains exists, so much so that it has become an unsolved mystery.

In one of his recent videos, which is shot from the Fort Groot-Friedrichburg (Fort Holland), he said that not even archaeologists have been able to trace the location of the fort.

Goshers also claimed that the Fort Sophia, which was built by Groot-Freidrichburg for his second wife (Sophia), is believed by some people to have been treasure-laden, perhaps, explaining its mysterious circumstances.

“It is called Fort Groot-Freidrichburg here in Ahanta West, Princes Town, and this fort; you see, the Germans, when they showed up here, they actually built four forts. They built this one - Groot-Freidrichburg here and then they built Dorithia at Akwida, and then they built Prinseinstein in the Volta Region. But then they built another fort call Sophia. That is the mystery I want to talk to you about.

“The Fort Sophia, you see, the man had two wives: he built Groot-Freidrichburg for himself and then he built the Dorithia for the first wife and then he built Sophia for the second wife. But now, all these forts that he built, the mystery is this; you can see the landmarks… but then the Sophia is nowhere to be found. I mean archaeologists cannot even locate where the fort was built. And, the mystery behind this fort is that, that fort has goodies buried in there. They cannot find whether the fort was built underground but here is this; some of the people of the Cape Three Point area say that sometimes, when they are walking around in the bush, they can actually come across gold and they sometimes see it in large numbers and they start to panic,” he explained.

The Fort Groot-Freidrichburg is also a place believed to have been frequented by Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah severally, using it as a hideout.
